About the Client

The State Transit Authority of New South Wales, also referred to as State Transit, is an agency of the Government of New South Wales operating bus services in Sydney.

The Challenges

Frequently modified school route data including special buses were manually generated using a costly and time consuming process. Exceptions to bus stops were not available in real time causing frustration to students and parents.

School Bus Timetable app– The Solution

PretaGov developed a customised database and application to parse and store XML data directly and automatically from the transport department bus timetabling system. The system was designed to:

• parse and understand route data for special school buses.

• integrate with google maps layers to provide visualisations of your nearest school bus services.

• save the agency time by automatically generating printable timetables specific to a given school and route. (previously was done in a costly manual process).

• manage exceptions to stopping points from the timetable system to produce more informative maps for school students.

• custom subscription system for sending email alerts to subscribers of specific bus routes.
